Social and Economic Changes in Tonga 1918-2006

Perhaps Salote rewrote not only Tonga’s past but her own present but this was not simply self amplification. In her last years Queen Salote could see Tongans values being eroded by economic considerations and she attempted to reinforce those customs in Tongan society that would consolidate the Tongan sense of identity, such as love, respect and mutual helpfulness. She was largely successful in preserving Tongan pride. She had a commanding presence, a radiant and attractive personality, which endeared her to everyone.
However, as we approached Tupou VI’s reign it was a totally new era for the history of Tonga to explore and to experience modern facilities and development throughout the welfare of its people.

"Tupou the IV’s era has proven to be prosperous in both social and economic context”. As it seen towards the end of the twentieth century, Tongan history entered a new era as the Tongan people and their leaders adjust with the social changes that upgrade their standard of leaving and the establishment of a new economic base for their society. All these previous changes in Tonga are overshadowed by the transformation which took place during the reign of Tupou IV

Kingdom of Tonga

Malo e Lelei and Malo tau toe ma'u e 'ahoni! Greetings to you all and a warm welcome. My name is Ratu Seniloli Viliami Kimbu 'Inoke, Tongan citizen who was born and raised up in the beloved Kingdom of Tonga.

Tonga is the only country in the Pacific to be ruled by Monarch and never had been once yieded its freedom to any Imperial country but it was considered a protectorate state of Britain prior to 1970. Tongan history, one can spend a lifetime recall how it came about, the power and prestige  that conquer the whole Pacific region as it was better known as the Tongan Empire. Tupou dynasty ruled Tonga for more than a century now; Tupou dynasty come about in the compilation of the three main King lines of Tonga, the Tu'i Kanokupolu, Tu'i Ha'atakalaua and the Tu'i Tonga.
